Our Philosophy

Our focus is to provide continuity of care for pregnant women and their families. By providing evidence based information and support we enhance the journey from pregnancy to motherhood; empowering women to make the right choices for themselves and their baby.
Doulas give non-medicalised assistance during the birth process, anticipating needs while maintaining the space, dignity and comfort of the woman in her chosen birth environment. We work with the mother and her birth partner to create a positive and empowering birth experience for all involved. Our support continues into the postpartum period and we will assist with the smooth transition between birth venue and home and into the early weeks of motherhood.
We support all women, of all backgrounds, with whoever they call family. We support women wherever they choose to birth their babies and raise their families. We strongly believe that women have a right to respect, dignity and confidentiality.
We believe that birth is normal and that women will birth best when they feel safe in their chosen surrounds and with their chosen birth team. There are many factors involved in birth and early parenting that can have an effect on these experiences. We come from the perspective that gentleness is best – gentle birth and gentle parenting – and we support you in maintaining calm and gentleness throughout this time.
You are assisting at someone else’s birth
Do good without show or fuss.
Facilitate what is happening
rather than what you think
ought to be happening.
If you must, take the lead.
Lead so that the mother is helped,
yet still free and in charge.
When the babe is born
the mother will rightly say,
“We did it ourselves”
